Sites Of Jordan

Less than an hour drive north of Amman you can enjoy a one day trip to the fascinating city; Jarash. It is acknowledged internationally as one of the largest and most well preserved sites of Roman architecture in the world outside Italy.

A walk through Jarash is a journey in time. Enter the city as its Roman inhabitants did, through the monumental South Gate, into the impressing oval plaza. Make your way down the street of columns and as you step over the tracks of chariot wheels still visible in the paving stones, imagine well-off people window-shopping beneath a covered sidewalk.

The city's golden age came under Roman rule and hidden for centuries in sand before being excavated and restored over the past 70 years, Jarash reveals a fine example of the grand, formal provincial Roman urbanism that is found throughout the Middle East, comprising paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theatres, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates.

After your long walk in Jarash; you can have a rest and experience delicious food in any fine restaurant near the city in addition to visiting Jarash Archaeological Museum to enjoy the history.
